  • you are discharged prior to the start of the strike Or labor dispute.
  • you are unemployed because of a lockout.
  • you are laid off due to a strike against your employer (in this case, you are disqualified through the end of the week in which the strike begins).

Job Placement and Training

The Minnesota Job Service is the largest single source of job openings in the state. There are about 60 locations throughout Minnesota. To register with Job Service either fill out an application form or submit a resume at the office nearest you. Ask for a complete list of the services available through that Job Service office, which may include reference materials, resume analysis, employer information and personal computers. Creative Job Search classes are offered at all Job Services offices, too, to help job seekers acquire skills needed in their work search including how to look for work, how to interview, and resume writing.

The Job Service has an electronic bulletin board system for posting job openings throughout the state. The system is accessible in all Job Service lobbies, most college and technical school placement offices and on Internet by accessing America's Job Bank.

The Job Service also operates MN SkillsNet, a skills based computerized matching system that extracts skills from resumes for matching to employers' skill needs. This allows you to be considered for jobs in your own community and throughout the state.

When you go to register with Job Service make sure you have plenty of time. It is best to be very complete when filling out the application and this may take some time. Some of the information you will be asked to give is as follows:

    • past work history
    • education
    • military experience
    • interests and all skills you may have
