NWA Contract Negotiations

NWA Negotiations are taking place this week here in MSP at the Wings Financial Building in Apple Valley. Thank you to the many members who showed up this week to support our negotiators. If you have not attended this week you still have an opportunity. They will be negotiating tomorrow (Thursday June23) from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Informational Picketing

The Local 33 NWA Strike Committee has informed us that informational picketing and handout distribution will take place at the MSP Lindbergh Terminal from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Wednesday June 29. A shuttle van will again be available to transfer members to the terminal for picketing. Pickup will be from the large parking lot behind the AmeriSuites hotel. You may sign up in the Shop Committee offices or by calling the Local Office at .

NWA Medical Insurance Dependent Verification

We have been notified by NWA benefits that 345 of our members have not yet submitted dependent verification information. Submission of the requested information must be received by June 27, 2005 or NWA has informed us your dependents will lose their eligibility. Additional information is available at www.nwapeople.com or by calling the Budco Helpline at from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (EST) Monday - Friday.

MSP layoffs

Bumping in MSP from the reduction in force notices that were issued on June 15 has begun. Your contractual rights allow you to exercise your seniority at the NWA MSP bid desk on your own time, if you so desire. You also have the ability to exercise your seniority via NWA's computer system. If you exercise via computer, it is imperative that you print out and retain a copy of the confirmation screen. The Bldg. C Shop Committee has asked that members choosing to utilize the computer system FAX a copy of the confirmation page to their office at . Please be aware of your contractual right of recall and the time limits you have to file your recall notice.

NWA Dependent Verification

This is a reminder to all NWA Employees that dependent verification for medical and dental plans are due by June 27, 2005. You may find information on this program on the NWA Radar web site ( www.nwapeople.com ) or by calling the Budco Help Line at from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (EST) Monday - Friday. We were contacted last week by NWA Benefits and were informed that over 1500 of our members have not yet sent in dependent verification information to Budco. If you fail to send in the required information, according to the NWA letter dated March 25, 2005, NWA has threatened to remove your dependents from insurance eligibility, or require repayment of the total cost of all 2005 claims for your dependents, and other further disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.

NWA Contract Negotiations

Contract negotiations will be conducted next week June 20 - 23 in MSP at the Wings Financial Building in Apple Valley from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. AMFA negotiators meet beginning at 8:30 am. Observers are welcome. If you plan on attending negotiations as an observer, remember we are guests of Wings Financial. Please respect their business needs and the business needs of the other tenants in the building accordingly.

Dislocated Workers Meeting

Dislocated worker meetings hosted by the Minnesota Dislocated Worker Rapid Response Team will be conducted on Tuesday June 28th and Wednesday June 29th at the Wings Financial Building in Apple Valley in the 1st floor conference room. These meetings are for any NWA employee at risk of layoff that did not attend the meetings in April at the Dakota County Government Center. The meetings times will be 7:30 am 12:00 noon and 4:00 pm. You may attend any of the meetings on either day; the meeting format and content will be the same for each meeting.

Local 33 Business Meeting

Local 33 will be conducting its monthly business meeting next week on Tuesday June 21, 2005. We meet at the Wings Financial Building in the 1st floor conference room. Meeting times are 7:15 am, 3:45 pm and 11:45 pm.

Accelerated Layoff Schedule

Our Local 33 NWA Airline Reps met with the Company yesterday and were informed that NWA will accelerate the layoffs that were anticipated to be issued in July. Layoff notices will now be issued on June 15 with the last shift worked to be July 15.

Informational Picketing Report

Yesterdays informational picketing at the MSP main terminal was a great success. We had a steady flow of members show up to carry picket signs and hand out leaflets to passengers at the entrance doors. Thank you to the members and their friends and family that participated in this event. Thanks goes out also to the Strike Committee members who planned and participated in this event.

Strike Informational Meeting Report

The NWA Strike Informational meeting at the Thunderbird Hotel Conference Center on Tuesday was also well attended by our members. Thank you to those who took the time to attend and receive updated information on current events.

Financial Seminar

We received a notice from Sandvold and Associates that they will be presenting a financial seminar on Tuesday June 14 at the Thunderbird hotel. The times will be 7:30 AM, 12:00 noon, and 4:00 PM. They will be having a guest speaker from the Social Security Administration at the 12:00 noon and 4:00 pm meeting. If you have any questions on pension issues (non-contractual), health coverage tax credit, 401K transfers, or Social Security benefits you may attend this free seminar.

Dislocated Worker Informational Meeting

We have also received notice that the Minnesota Department of Economic Development (DEED), will be holding a meeting for NWA workers who are at risk of layoff. This meeting will be the same format as the meetings that were held at the end of April at the Dakota County Government Center. The meetings will be held on Tuesday June 28 and Wednesday June 29 at the Wings Financial Building in Apple Valley in the first floor conference room (same location as our Local 33 business meetings). Times are 7:30 AM, 12:00 Noon, and 4:00 PM. You may attend either meeting, the content will be the same.

Tuesday June 7, 2005 --- STRIKE INFORMATIONAL MEETING---

This is an Informational Meeting for our members being held at the Thunderbird Hotel Navajo Room (2nd Floor) in Bloomington. Times are 7:30 AM 12:00 Noon and 4:00 PM.  Topics of discussion will be NWA Contract Negotiations and Strike Preparedness.

Thursday June 9, 2005 ---INFORMATIONAL PICKETING and LEAFLETING---

The Local 33 Strike Committee has scheduled informational picketing at the MSP Airport Lindberg Terminal from 6: 00 AM to 6:00 PM on June 9th.  We encourage participants to please wear your company uniform.  A van will be available to shuttle people to the terminal. Pickup and drop off will be in the large parking lot just West of the AmeriSuites Hotel in Bloomington.  We need a great turnout from our members to make this event succeed.

Please set aside some time to help out. If you don't volunteer to help, there will not be enough other people to carry the burden for you. NOW ! is the time to become an active participant in your future.


June 1, 2005

NWA Negotiations

Negotiations are being conducted this week in Duluth Minnesota at Fitgers in downtown Duluth. AMFA Representatives will meet with the National Mediation Board (NMB) in Washington D.C. tomorrow June 2nd at
10:00 am. This meeting was scheduled prior to the letter sent by NWA to the NMB asking to be released.

A response from AMFA's Negotiating team to the NMB addressing NWA's request to be released, is due by Wednesday, June 8th, 2005.

The next scheduled NWA negotiations will take place in MSP the week of June 20 - 23 at the Wings Financial Office in Apple Valley, MN

AMFA Local 33 Strike Informational Meetings

AMFA Local 33 will be conducting a strike informational meeting for our members on Tuesday June 7th, 2005 at the Thunderbird hotel in Bloomington. The meetings times are 7:30 am 12:00 noon and 4:00 pm in the Navajo room on the 2nd floor. Topics of discussion will be NWA contract negotiations and strike preparedness. Please plan on attending these important meetings.

We need good participation from our members to provide adequate coverage for this event.
